Thompson Whites were originated by Bradford Thompson by using a white cock procured from Col. Bragg, which was called a white China Pheasant cock (why called pheasant cock it is hard to say, as he was just an ordinary game cock) over his Pyle hens; breeding him back to his daughters. He soon had a strain coming pure white with yellow legs and beaks, red eyes and straight combs. Cocks weighed from 4:04 to 6:00. It is claimed that Thompson never lost a main and only a very few hacks with them.

I'd also like to mention that I've read someplace before (I don't recall where) that these whites were of Chinese game fowl that Mr. Thompson (or Bragg) bought off a fellow he was going to meet in the pit and forfeited his match to buy this cock. It was also said some Australian Pit game was crossed into these whites at some point.

Thompson Whites are rare in the fact they posses a dominant white gene and when crossed will throw mostly all white offspring and they do not posses the type of white gene that causes reds to become white (white Clarets, white Kelso, etc.).
