The Cowan Roundheads were bred from a cross of Allen Roundhead (being itself a cross of a Boston Roundhead cock from Dr. Fred Saunders over some Col. Grist Grady Hens with some Cripple Tony Roundhead blood) obtained from Mr. Shelton and Mahoney Gull hens and over time linebred back to the Roundhead side. This cross was originally known as Alabama Roundheads when originally fought by H.H. Cowan and T.K. Bruner. Some people believe the Bruner Roundheads may have some of the Alabama Roundhead blood in them.
